How we check

Method last changed .

Three doors, one bar

If a product brings no real value to the people who use it, it doesn't get in, however it was built.

Store apps

On Google Play or the App Store.

  • It is live on the store
  • A person opens the store page
  • Only-negative reviews are turned down

Web apps

On the maker's own domain.

  • Who it is for, in one sentence
  • The one job it does
  • A person uses the app or follows the test steps

Ideas

Not built. Labelled that way everywhere.

  • Who, the job, and what would kill it
  • Four questions, scored 0 to 2
  • Never shown as an app

Store apps

The link has to be on Google Play or the App Store. Any other host is turned down, and that host is not fetched. The maker says the app is live. A person opens the store page and turns it down if it is not live, if the listing text does not match the page, or if the reviews there are only negative. Store reviews are not scraped.

Web apps

A web app needs HTTPS on the maker's own domain. A free-hosting subdomain is not accepted. The listing says who it is for, the one job, and what would make it fail. A person uses the live app or follows the maker's test steps. The steps stay private and are not shown here. A demo link is optional.

Ideas

An idea is not built. The page says so in the title, on the chip and in the structured data. It needs who it is for, the one job, and what would make it fail. Four questions are scored from 0 to 2, or left blank. Blank is "Not scored", never a made-up number. An idea is never shown as an app.

What the gate turned down, last 30 days

Each number is a count of decisions in the last 30 days. Zero is zero. Withdrawing a listing is not a rejection, so it is not in this list.

What we never do

Paid testing

Paid testing, if it ever comes, is private reports, never public stars.

How listings are ordered

Lists show the newest check first. Search shows listings that match every word, newest check first. Collections follow the editor's order. Nobody can pay for a place or a position. How listings are ordered.

How to report

Use the report form and name the listing. A report does not remove a listing by itself. A person reads it.
